Will I be manipulated by being in a hypnotic state?
The question most often asked is “Will I be manipulated by being in a hypnotic state?” Media hype has caused many of us to feel we are not in control of our feelings while being in a very relaxed, trance state. Fortunately, nothing is further from the truth.
Each of us has our own, unique core belief system, which cannot be manipulated under any circumstance. Instead of changing who you are, think of hypnosis as removing the blocks that get in the way of who you are. Certified hypnotists have a strong code of ethics, and they always strive to enable the client to facilitate the most positive, change in their behavior.
Can I be hypnotized?
I also am often asked, “ Can I be hypnotized?” Yes, you certainly can! By any chance have you watched TV lately, or perhaps find yourself daydreaming about your plans for the weekend? These are both examples of being in a light trance state. Hypnotherapy relaxes you deeply, thereby allowing your conscious mind to disengage, so that your dreaming, imaginative subconscious can listen in. Another common trance-related behavior occurs when you drive to a familiar place, like your office for example. Your subconscious mind knows exactly when to turn right or left; as if you could almost do it blindfolded. On the other hand, compare this with how hard you have to concentrate when driving in a snowstorm, when your conscious mind is focusing on every decision you make.
How many sessions will I need?
Finally, you might be wondering how many sessions we’ll need for you to reach your goals. The number of recommended sessions really depends upon your reason for wanting hypnosis. For example, clients wishing treatment for pain management may come for 6-8 sessions, while clients seeking help with flying phobia may only need 2-3 sessions.
